This was supposed to come out on Friday, but you get it on Monday because we had a Hand in the Dirt emergency and we lost 2.5 hours of shows. So enjoy!
Obviously, we have “Chicken Salad Chick” here in Charlotte.
I love it, I took my mother-in-law there because I needed to just not be in our house while I was putting together my wife’s baby shower final food situation almost 5 years ago. I first went in either Athens, GA or Little Rock, AR, and the novelty of a restaurant that does chicken salad was amazing. I don’t remember which place I was in, but I remember it was a beacon of light when you’re looking for something that wasn’t fried on a workday.
Granted, I’m a chicken salad lover.
My mom is a chicken salad lover, and a tuna salad lover.
Basically my mother was a mudder and I’m a mudder too.
Love chicken salad. Freaking to the window to the damn wall, I love chicken salad. Spicy, sweet, savory. All of it. In a wrap or that little scoop they put on a salad.
And of course on a sandwich.
When I was a lifeguard at the Harris Y, I was going to the snack stand and getting chicken salad on wheat every damn day. It was 90+ everyday in the summer: a cold sandwich that didn’t feel slimy like the ham or turkey?
Gimme that.
Hell, before that, I used to to go to this spot in South Charlotte, off Park and Montford, called “The Pressbox” and they had a chicken salad special and that was my go to lunch when I was working at Bedford Falls, the toy store.
The Pressbox is now Brazwell's, and it does sort of suck, but whatever. The point here is that original place was a pretty good, dive-y bar with a great lunch. We would go from The Pressbox, and later from Brazwell’s, to the legendary Jeff’s Bucket Shop, which is a whole other situation, while we waited on a Jet’s pizza.
But to get back on topic. I would walk across the Park Road Shopping Center lot, cross Woodlawn and go to The Pressbox. I used to get a Miller High Life, Chicken Salad and the round fries during my break from the toy store, for like $6. An amazing lunch deal, sitting with old guys who were regulars and I just loved the entire experience.
Which is to say, it is my favorite lunch. Chicken salad on toast. Chips or in this case, round fries. And a beer.
You can’t beat that for lunch.
So we had lunch for dinner this week.
Cheers
