DJ Uiagalelei has not been great this year. He’s been fine. Not great. Not the worst. Just okay at best.
Obviously coming off last season fans had high expectations. Bringing in a former 5-star QB also gets people super pumped for the potential. The flashes he showed at Clemson, specifically in the Notre Dame game in Trevor Lawrence’s stead rev it up. Plus a solid year at Oregon State.
As someone who has been a part of football for the bulk of his life. Not just watching but playing, studying, being on bad teams for sure both in high school and college; this ain’t his fault.
Sure, we can look at the stat lines from this season
And now his entire career stat lines.
He’s the same. That’s not a knock on him. The bigger stat lines, for me is thiNo run game. This was supposed to be a solid defense and they’re not delivering on that either. DJ also doesn’t have much time to do anything, which is linked to the run game and the OL just not moving bodies. These defenders are in his lap nearly immediately. We’re not talking about him being harried by Georgia or Bama or even Utah, we’re talking about Georgia Tech and BC.
Space and grace. We all want to win. Winning takes more than just a QB, which is the point of the post and video. There isn’t a QB on the planet, in this situation with the OL, the drops and the defense that would thrive.
Am I wrong?
Plays and even now with head comms, decisions aren’t made for the fans. Plays get called based on what the team, not just the QB can do. DJ can throw the ball down the field. It takes time for that. When a guy is getting hassled on a 3-step from shotgun, that coaching staff knows they’re in trouble.
Pay more attention. Peace.
Cut him some slack and worry about all the other parts of the team that can’t seem to row together.
Cheers!!!
Appreciate the content and the nuance. The narrative I bought was this FSU team was every bit as talented and ready as last year's team. And like you said, the decline in talent is across the board and not specific to DJ.
It'll be interesting to see how the team rallys around one another since their initial goal, the playoff, is realistically out of reach.
Always the elite read! Thank you Felder! Keep grinding bro
