This is a beautiful play call. A tapestry setup early that makes a team playing Cover-1 think they’re in charge and then you pull the rug out from under them. It is like when you give your toddler a choice between broccoli and spinach and no matter what choice they make, you win.
But there is a wrench in here.
The wrench is a harried QB. Stetson Bennett sees pressure from his right but doesn’t realize his team has it controlled enough for him to make the proper throw. So he rushes it.
Right into an interception to Steele Chambers (great name).
It is a rushed play he wants back. It is a throw he can make. He knows that if he throws an up ball that Kenny McIntosh is walking into the endzone and tying the game up 14-14.
He knows he burned a really good playcall.
These are the spots where TCU can have success. We saw them have two Pick-Sixes against Michigan. If you are off your game by making the wrong throw or wrong call or wrong decision, they will make you pay for it. Hell, even if you call the right play and show up late, they will make you pay.
Evidenced by a good call that took too long, even though TCU wasn’t even lined up correctly.
Make the right throw. Trust your OL. Score a touchdown. Go get that back-to-back title. GATA.
Cheers!
