I am starting writing this during the halftime show; why? Because my kid just went to bed after the first half and I had to get her to school today at 7:30, so why not get some things going.
Speaking of halftime, the Kendrick show was amazing. I’m not a huge K-Dot fan. He’s such a good rapper, but I’m not super into him. That being said, that halftime show was so dope.
Amazing.
It was BLACK as hell. It felt like somehow Cali, New Orleans, ATL, The Chi, Brooklyn and Harlem all in one. Houston, which is just New Orleans and Memphis a little bit west, all of it. That shit was dope.
The NFL embracing (allowing) it speaks to them understanding that their base is not just Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bruno Mars or Katy Perry as a product. This isn’t “Like a Rock,” F-150 or Silverado shit, it is Kendrick going off and I loved it.
Bring Serena Williams out to C-Walk!!! Let’s GO!!!
Speaking of going of let’s go, might as well go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: I Like Tom Brady
Is his delivery great? No.
Is he fun and quippy? No.
Does he know what the fuck he is talking about? YES!!
This man is calling out plays before they happen. He knows where the space is on the field and areas of opportunities and defensive vulnerabilities. It is good. Who cares if he sounds like an under-confident slime weasel?! He’s actually giving you good football information.
In the words of Bricktop:
I don’t care about his energy or cadence, you can fix that. The info is something most folks don’t bring and that’s all I want. From all the criticism he’s received it just seems like instead of actual information people just want their mom to tell them a bed time story in a fucking warm blanket and not the truth.
2nd Down: Cooper DeJean Is A Boss
I love this dude. Everyone is going to talk about the Pick-6 which was great.
Great play.
What I loved was at the 2nd Quarter 12:52 mark. He told an older player to flip with him and ran across the formation to cover a WR so the LB could be hands on a TE/RB and they got off the field. That is lovely.
That is football. That’s why I love football. This is a young man who knows what is happening. This is a young man who doesn’t wait, makes a decision. This is a young man who decides this is how we need to handle this.
And it works.
3rd Down: Got To Enjoy It With My Kid
She asked real questions. Honestly, she asked questions her mom had and beat her to the punch; regarding holding, the OPI call, offsides and very interestingly, “how many plays do they know?” (which is a thing my wife has never asked but has wondered as a former volleyball and softball player and with a swim kid, they don’t have plays).
I loved it.
Regarding how many plays I got to sit down with them and talk about plays versus plays out of different personnel packages and/or formations. The best question I got was:
“So, you’re saying even though the play is the same, they have to know how to do that from completely different places on the field and that’s just assumed they will know, but the Center and QB have to know all of that so they can make sure things work?”
Yes.
These guys aren’t dumb and explaining football to people and watching them realize, “Oh, they are hyper focused on this, not on the wartime geopolitical atmosphere from 1945 which led to the bomb being dropped in Hiroshima” is a big deal.
These guys are kings of tiny castles. Who gives a fuck about China or TikTok when you have to figure out how to beat Patrick Mahomes and could also, maybe, break your neck in the process?
4th Down: Super Bowl Put TLC On Display
I know most parents get this, TLC is not just “tender love and care” and it isn’t “The Learning Channel” this shit stands for:
Tender Loving Children.
As in kids love them some chicken tenders. So, instead of wings that I obviously do love, since I was watching the game with my kid, I opted for the less messy, chicken tenders this year.

She loved it. I don’t know if you can call thighs “tenders” but whatever and we had breaded potato wedges to go with the three dipping sauces. Honey Mustard. Ranch and Buffalo Sauce.
Very good.
Cheers!!!
My two most important things for chicken tenders
1. Breading needs to be crispy (buttermilk or Korean fry tend to be my go-tos)
2. The dipping sauces need to go hard.
I can tell you nailed the breading (as if there was ever a doubt) but how did you do the sauces?
