Tuesday Play Tracking: We Are Moving To Networks
Let's see where our Savage Seven Played the most and then we can go from there
Hope y’all had a great Christmas. I had “a Christmas” and by that I mean I did everything required of me and didn’t make the car careen off the road. I landed the plane, so to speak. I am excited to be semi-back on track with work and home-life, although I still have a week of break for my family while I am grinding.
Speaking of grinding, I have taken on this task and I accept the responsibility of it, because I think it matters. Welcome to the new folks, this season we followed seven teams (Army, LSU, Miami, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas Tech, Western Kentucky) to see how the new rules impacted the game.
Basically, clock runs after first downs outside of the last two minutes of the half, you can’t call consecutive timeouts (like when icing the kicker) and penalties in the 1st and 3rd quarter get moved to 2nd and 4th instead of untimed downs to end the quarter.
This is a process and in the words of the 76ers or Nick Saban, “trust the process” because I did have my math loving wife check the numbers. Here’s our network breakdown:
So the plan here is to go through each network, team independent, and figure out their average game times. Then after we do that next week, the next step is looking at, network independent, early kicks vs midday kicks vs primetime vs late night kicks.
Step one is network average times. Very curious to see the streaming of MWN, Peacock, ESPN+ and Big 12+ versus the cable versus network. That’s the plan for the next few weeks as we get ready for the playoff. And much like my brother had to teach me about spreadsheets, my wife had to double check my math on these.
We have some networks, CBS Sports Network leading the way, that have a larger sample size for our teams. Others, NFL Network, Peacock and Spectrum, with just one chance. We will build that out to see what other teams are doing. Spectrum is a weird one because that is a Hawai’i game.
That’s the way we are moving now and we can see what we learn including overtimes and then I really want to dig into reviews. I did ACC Radio on Sirius with Wes Durham and EJ Manuel today and they both mentioned the filler regarding reviews and each league having different review protocols for their officials. So I want to get through the raw and then start to dig into that later.
Thanks for riding on this journey and it is not stopping. We will figure it out.
Cheers!!
