Tuesday Play Tracking: Glitch in the Matrix, No Overtime, Bad Football Both Ways
Wins or losses by big numbers seem to matter
A lot quicker this time, so here is last week’s chart:
Now, on to this week’s chart:
And the raw:
So what do we learn based on the games. Let’s start with the fact that we had no overtime. You love to see it. WKU no change because they didn’t play, and a peak behind the curtain, it did take me 30 minutes to realize I have to put the data in before I move the formula otherwise it messes stuff up. I’m still learning guys!
-Everyone’s plays are up. I think that speaks to teams both understanding how to work within the rules, and by teams I mean playcallers, and everyone getting into conference play.
-As for time “three up, three down” so let’s look at the games.
Army 19 point loss, down
LSU 30 point win, down
Miami 10 point loss, up
Michigan 45 point win, up
New Mexico 28 point loss, down
Texas Tech 17 point loss, up
-I think Texas Tech and Michigan are weird exceptions based on some previous data, not just this week. Army, LSU, New Mexico being down sticks to the idea that if we get a blow out things can get over quicker because no one wants to be there.
-Texas Tech’s Week 5 of 132 minutes wildly skewed their data and they’re going to continue to climb to ultimately level out. Which, I guess, is what averages are all about.
-Michigan’s entire first 5 weeks were super light and now, blow out or not, they’re coming up.
-Miami played a doozy of a ball game against UNC, 41-31, including 4 turnovers and 10 punts plus 72 points which is a lot of time for commercial breaks. Makes sense their time is going up.
This upcoming week we’ve got a nice distribution of networks (ACC Network, FSI, NBA, ESPNU, Stadium and SEC Network). We also have, if I’m not mistaken, our first team on team crime!!
Army at LSU on SEC Network.
You know how much easier that will make things when they play each other and so the times will be the same and my new calculator only has to do it once?! I also am super interested in that game with a struggling LSU defense to see what they do against an Army team limping in losing 3 straight and still trying to find ground weapons to make plays.
Not related to play tracking, but whew, Miami-Clemson being pushed to ACC Network while Duke and FSU are dancing on the main stage for ABC’s prime game is not a thing most folks had on their bingo card to start the year.
Cheers!!
