Video First, I love a pin and pull. Normally it looks like this:
But when you get to do it with the motion and the RB as a lead, you’re in business. That is a big balls flex from Georgia and the reason they, obviously, scored 65 points and covered the over by themselves.
In the normal pin and pull you get a QB handing it to the RB and being out of the play. A TE blocking down, Tackle pulling out to seal and either a run off, crack or stalk from WR. But UGA decided, let’s really overwhelm them. You get the TE block down. You get the tackle pull, but you also get a motion, a crack and the RB lead to the point where the tackled has no one to block.
Tremendous.
Also tremendous?
Open fire cooking and Thanksgiving prep.
Yes, it is January.
Yes, I am in my bag.
My mom likes grilled food. My mom doesn’t care for smoked food. If you say anything negative about my mom I will absolutely ban you from this newsletter. She is Apple Jacks, she eats what she likes and is unimpeachable.
So, with my new open fire cooker I am working on a blend of light smoke but still grilling to get it to a level she likes while getting some of the fun of smoking and flavor that I like.
Injected this bird with the bourbon-Texas Pete-brown sugar and spice that I like.
Got the cooker going and it is definitely a different experience than a true smoking, even with me doming it with the stainless steel bowl.
Came out great. Takes less time than a true smoking because the open fire is hotter. But has the smoky notes, depending on the wood you use, and it was a great treat. And yes, I love lump charcoal more than briquettes, it has just been harder to source at my Lowe’s, HT and the other HT for the last few weeks so I had to use the briquettes.
She’s a beaut, Clark. She was moist, didn’t even bother with the gravy, just did the mac and the broccolini. Big win for a first-timer on that cooker.
Hot Browns are next on the menu for the leftovers.
The point here, if you want to be good at Thanksgiving or you think, “turkey sucks,” maybe you, or whoever cooks it for you, just makes it once a year. We got our first turkey of the year in. Came out great. Have some things I want to play with because this was cooked spatchcocked, but I want to try to cook it both in pieces and whole, breast side down vs breast up.
Practice makes perfect y’all.
Cheers!
