On NIL and Reclassifying
There's an answer to this and I can promise what ain't it
First, regarding NIL:
The market will set itself.
That’s my initial thought.
Let teams, collectives and business make their own mistakes and realize there is no return or little return on their investment and recalibrate. That’s what a new business venture is, ebb and flow, give and take. Whether it is social media posts, followers obtained, sales, success on the field to elevate your brand or program; if they don’t ebb, you don’t flow.
That one is pretty easy to watch play itself out. In the words of DJ Quik, “If it don’t make dollaz, it don’t make sense” and that’s how collectives and business will course correct.
Second, Reclassifying:
I know I did a podcast about it and have done some IG things about this idea. I think it is bad and that it does more harm than good. There is one thing to social or academic hold backs early on, pre-K and K. Once kids establish their cohort depriving them of that for things that aren’t massive life events; medical issues, moving, divorce et al is bad. Hoping to get a scholarship while taking a K-8 peer group away is not a “massive life event.”
Now, add in reclassifying for the pipe dream of a scholarship, paired with an NIL deal and it costing you $20,000. You’re taking your kid out of their cohort, to a new school, lining the pockets of some guy selling you a goose laying golden eggs, for this pipe dream.
