4 Hard Downs: WHAT A FREAKING WEEKEND
Personal, Professional, On The Field, Holy Crap Y'all Pre-Thanksgiving Got Butt Naked
This week was already setup to be a banger with all the Thanksgiving things going on and then CFB decided to truly pull its pants down and get wild, and so did my life.
Oklahoma smashed Alabama. Florida beats Ole Miss. Auburn takes 4 OTs to takedown an A&M who had a clear path to the SEC Championship.
In my actual life:
-Swim Meet that went from an hour, expected, to 4 hours because there were more teams
-Wife fainting at said swim meet
-Mom taking wife home and she also took my my kid to dinner (which was an amazing help for a guy trying to catch up on the games), while I try to take care of my wife and then put my kid to bed
-Lived in nosebleed city with weather change, heat being turned on and stress
Not fun.
So, let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Kansas, Who I Didn’t Mention Is On A Heater
This is amazing. Seriously, watching this team with ….
2nd Down: Cheers to ASU over BYU
I didn’t love the end game play, but it worked. Just a super high throw that sealed the deal for Sparky. I am a huge fan of just take the safety when you’re up 5 points.
Getting the win is all that matters. But the high pass is nasty work.
We will get to the fans but right now, this is some Colt McCoy vs Ndamukong Suh type shit. And they got it right.
Fans shouldn’t be on the field. Kudos to Arizona State for getting the win, which BYU did not. Howevever just wait. It is dangerous and you can create so much more bad than any good. Goalpost are coming down. Officials can’t get to the replay setup. Your own team doesn’t want you there.
3rd Down: Bama Picked A Bad Day To Have A Bad Day
Ooof.
Great gameplan from the Sooners. Got Alabama Twisted like Keith Sweat:
Stopping the Jalen Milroe run game and bracketing Ryan Williams. A great mix of zone, man and late DL/LB movement. They also, which goes back to Brent Venables entire career, tackled exceptionally well.
4th Down: You Hit Up The Grocery Store?
I had to go for the last cheese, gtuyere, for my mac at 7:40am today. I thought I was done. I was early enough that no one was there frantically shopping.
*Wrong: One man was there buying a whole Thanksgiving*
By the time this hits you need to have everything and extra. That’s just a fact and my guy Stephen Hartzell is even more adamant about this than I am. We’re in business baby.
Also, sidenote, of note:
I completely forgot, after the weekend on the field, with my family and trying to handle things, getting into Thanksgiving Mode: Today marks 500 days of at least a mile a day. Totally slipped my mind.
When I left Charlotte in 2018 for Chicago I was 306lbs. Not great Bob.
I lost 25-30lbs in Chicago because I had to walk to the bus everyday. Then Covid-19 hit and I was back at home being a snack machine. We moved home in 2022 and I had a 4 year old and a neighborhood with a big pond that I could see wildlife (deer, squirrels, coyotes, also some chickens from neighbors) everyday.
The impetus for these last 500 days is I tried to walk home from our swim club in 2023 and got tired and had to get picked up on a two mile walk.
Was I turned up? Sure.
Should I still have made it alone? Absolutely.
That was 4th of July 2023. This is November 2024, 500 days and since July 14th I’ve just been out there.
Not a “weight loss” or “fitness journey” like what populates people’s IG. Just more of a mentality of I need to get active as someone with a 6 year old, who is turning 40, and to have time by myself to just work through work (redundant use of the word) and my personal ever increasing anger.
I’m back to fighting weight, 204, lost 100lbs in a few years. Nothing rapid. No meds. No cheats. I have a tight food window that I will break for my friends and family so I’m not a weirdo at events. The mile a day, run and/or walk, is the only difference. Do it everyday and it helps me clear my head and be a better dad and husband and friend.
So let’s cheers to that and I hope y’all have a great Thanksgiving.
Cheers.
Cheers to 500!
Congrats on the weight loss. I have 2 kids under 4 and hit 305lbs a few months ago. Had to make a change and started walking and eating better. I've already dropped over 35lbs with a long way to go. It's amazing how much even that little bit changes things.
