4 Hard Downs: Weezy, Toes, Houston, Shows
Practice What You Preach in NFL Draft Process, Sampson and Sandals
Here’s the thing, it has been close to 90 recently, in April, in North Carolina, and what I don’t want to see are toes.
I never want to see toes. He. Her. Them. They. I never want to see toes. But the toes are out. It was in the 80s for the party and I realized, this isn’t just getting close to “pool season” this is also peak season for toe-mo-sexuals, which I am not.
My kid broke out her sandals. My wife is wearing sandals. My wife’s friend is just barefoot at my house. My dad is wearing his crocs, not in sport mode, fully barefoot at my house.
I’ll forever ride with my socks and sneakers. Everyone else is toes out for all, so let’s SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: I Hate Sandals
I understand the concept of slides/shower shoes. Easy to go check the mail or even more obviously, I wear them when I take a shower at the Y. However, when my kid or my niece or my wife put on sandals my mind says, “You’re not operational.”
Like, if you have to run, how can you?
You’re at school, someone projectile vomits, that’s your toes.
Someone drops a weight, or hell even a book, that’s your toes.
If you aren’t ready for speed and power, miss me. You can’t sprint into the distance, can’t sneak around because you’re flippy flopping with your sandals.
I don’t even wear sandals to the pool. I raw dawg my back-up Pegasus and then run home in them after 3-4 Bud Lights.
2nd Down: NFL Draft Stuff
I have 2 “for sure” things happening the week of NFL Draft. For Bleacher Report, on April 21st and 23rd, at 2pm and 3pm respectively, I have shows. We are still working out the Day 2 and Day 3 situation, so for now I want to let y’all know what I know is happening.
21st: Landing Spots For Top Defensive Prospects
23rd: Final NFL Draft Predictions
Will I be in NYC for the Draft? You’ll find out when I find out.
However, with these shows already booked I’m thinking about formatting them and I’d like to go five guys: CB, S, EDGE, LB, DT for the show and spend some time talking about fit and team needs.
For the Final Predictions it will be fun to talk about who goes when in that first round and I like to put in a “No Trades” policy because those are unpredictable.
3rd Down: They Didn’t Win But I Like Their Style
Truth be told, I don’t watch a lot of college basketball but Kelvin Sampson has been served to me in a clip that I really liked:
And then you add in the few portal kids he did get were there for him and to go out and win a title. Sure, they came up short, a shot away from finishing the drill but they got there.
Basically, listening to Sampson talk is a good reset of reminding people you have to do three things:
-Set expectations
-Add value
-Deliver on promises
Sampson did all those things for these young men. Is it hard to do that when you’re chasing the next big thing? Yes. Do coaches want to have to do it? No.
4th Down: I’m In On Billy B
Look, you all have taken this ride with me seeing Lil Wayne a month ago. He showed up at 11:30, we had a hell of a time. Then I get this:
A Tunechi UNC jersey. Belichick dapping up the best rapper alive. I’m in, and I don’t even root hard, or separate UNC (the school I went to) from just wanting good football and players to just succeed.
Basically, if LSU or Miami doesn’t get Weezy but UNC can get Weezy, let’s rock and roll, go play some damn football. I am very curious to see what the defense looks like and guess what, I got to talk with my friends about it because Bill is good at defense and that’s something post-Butch UNC hasn’t had.
We did The Masters Pool last night for CSN and as the reigning champ, we did get to talk some football as well. Tom Kim, let’s ride.
Cheers!!!
