4 Hard Downs: Weezy F. Baby & Safeties
I Had The Time Of My Life, Got Home & Made Fried Chicken, Plus Some Of My Favorites Come Up This Week
Y’all, I love being a dad. I love being a husband. I love being a writer. I love doing radio. I love doing podcasts. I love doing video and TV. I love being an involved parent who tomorrow gets to go meet with the Superintendent and a very limited group of parents to talk strategy and the state of things for the 18th largest school district in the country and 2nd largest in North Carolina.
Hell, I loved going to see Florence and The Machine in Chicago at the United Center in 2018. It was very cool to use my keycard to give my friends access to a private bathroom so no one had to wait in line.
Yet, nothing in my life has compared to going to see Lil Wayne in Raleigh this weekend.
I need to make this point; it was one day where I wasn’t a dad, husband, content producer. I was just a guy going to a concert and it was amazing. I love all that stuff more than Wayne, in general, but a day where you get to be yourself and people aren’t pulling from you is huge.
Now, in the words of Eminem it is time to, “Snap Back To Reality,” which is what I do need; so let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Weezy Recap
The Young Man Mr. Carter was in Raleigh and Your Man Michael Felder was there:
We were in a suite and of course “Dressed In All Black And My Gun The Same Color” for the night.
How it shoot if it’s plastic?
Got to Raleigh early afternoon and then I went for a run, did not realize it was St. Patrick’s Day weekend, so had to avoid a lot of people going ham. Then got back to the hotel where my friends had raided my charger stash (I travel with multiple chargers and they needed all of them). Shower, get dressed and hit dinner.
Post-dinner we go to a friend’s house in Raleigh and have a few drinks and more importantly some classic 40-ish conversations about kids and “do you know so and so?”
Party bus hits at 7 and we go to the arena, Lenovo that is.
We get there and BIG SURPRISE, we do get The Migos as the start of the show. My brother saw Weezy in Charlotte and he got to see the Hot Boys.
The Migos is a worthy substitute.
Then we were talking to a security guard who got on the walkie talkie and said Wayne isn’t even here; so we waited and at 11:30 he just erupted on stage.
Epic show. Great hang with 2 of my best friends in the world. Great birthday for another friend. Great chill with my new folks that I met who are part of their Raleigh crew.
Got some merch. Great stunt for my wife who shows up at work in a Young Money hoodie with Pine 3s.

Then we took an Uber to the hotel because we’re 40 and 2am is late and we needed to sleep,
2nd Down: Y’all I Took A Train
The Amtrak is great and also not great.
Better than driving, easily.
Cheaper than flying, no doubt.
Timing is like driving but you don’t have to do it, for sure.
Is there security? No. Is there a metal detector? No. Is there food for our trip? No.
Would we change this? No.
Take the train unless you’re going from Charlotte to Memphis which apparently is 49 hours.
3rd Down: Safety Bad Dream
More on this tomorrow but here are the guys I love:
4th Down: Party Bus
If you are 40 or approaching 40, you need to do a party bus.
Not for the same reason you had one as a 20 year old; but for the reason of not dealing with driving, parking or worrying about getting an Uber.
Why?
:It’s not expensive
-You can drink
-You don’t have to hope your Uber/Lyft shows up without being stolen by someone
-They are tied to you, as in place to place
I will get one for my wife and her friends soon so when they do their next girls weekend it is less of, “the Uber was late or hard to find” and more of, “we had a blast.”
Oh and for those wondering, NO I DID NOT MISS MY MILES!!!
Cheers!!!
