4 Hard Downs: We Are (Not Good)& It's Fall Y'all

This isn't just a Penn State thing, Attack the ball and Fall is attacking me

This is as far as I am going to go for a fall aesthetic, and I think it is fine:

It feels too far to me but it is a nice compromise with my kid and wife who, if I wasn’t here for guardrails, we might be this:

I can’t. My kid loves seeing the super tall skeletons and all the “at your home graveyards” but I’m not doing that. Same as I don’t do Christmas lights or anything 4th of July.

So as we get into “Spooky Season” my kid will trick-or-treat in the neighborhood where we go to the pool, with her mom, as a leopard. I will be at home posted up and shout out to the debut of my Bill Belichick Jack’o’Lantern which I am ready to carve the last week of the month. I got my UNC sweats ready to go:

Anyways, coming off a Sunday where I did school beautification that involved hauling a bunch of stuff and my back hurts, let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!

1st Down: Getting A Win When You Need It

UCLA has been awful. Clemson hasn’t lived up to expectations for the year; kindred spirits in a wild way.

They both got a win.

UCLA beats Penn State in a nearly empty Rose Bowl. Clemson smokes UNC in a very orange and very empty by halftime Kenan Stadium. Clemson didn’t have to celebrate, UCLA did because they had not until this game, Jerry out coached Franklin with no idea what he was doing on comms:

The Bruins’ win proves there is still some spine in that team. Clemson’s win was about staying in contention in a league where they still have a shot to win the championship game if they run the table (with some help).

2nd Down: Being Right vs Proven Wrong

What Was Michael Felder Wrong About:

-Arch Manning
-Clemson

Arch has been about as mid as the weed you bought in 8th grade (or according to my wife who thinks mid and Reggie are new insane slang) schwag. Sticks and stems and outside of Sam Houston not a lot of fireworks. Holds the ball too long in the pocket and needs to play in rhythm.

Basically, you’re not a hero, you’re a part of a team, let it do the work.

As for Clemson, they got right against UNC and called the dogs off early, which I don’t know why, go get 50. Perhaps Dabo, a coach going through a hard time being 1-3 (now 2-3) maybe was just getting reps for back-ups.

However, right about Penn State and USC and UNC.

All three live in the “they’re not that good” world and in UNC’s case you can sub “that” out and put “any” in the space.

3rd Down: Go Get The Football

If you are a WR, DB, TE, LB in a passing situation, go get the ball.

It is short because it is easy, just go get the ball.

If you think you’re best plan is to catch the ball at your tummy or your crotch; someone can just get it at your head.

GO GET THE DAMN BALL!!!!

4th Down: James Taylor Fixes Stuff

Tuesday morning and your boy was feeling down. On my “mallwalk” I put this on:

I wasn’t in a good headspace. I was feeling pretty fucked up mentally. However, this James Taylor “greatest hits” always gets me back to my true north. My mom gave it to me as a graduation gift when I was gone to Carolina and it reminds me of one of my best friend and I know I’ve always got a friend. I think of my wife and our love when I realize how sweet it is to be loved. I’m the Walking man when I am out winter, spring summer or fall and as a family you have to deal with fire and rain. I’ll be there. When my wife and I do fight, we don’t go bed angry because we don’t want each other to be lonely tonight.

I didn’t get them all in but I think the most important thing is to shower the people you love with love!! And yes, sometimes you do have to be a Steamroller, baby.

What a gift from my mom that has lasted for over 20 years in my brain and in usage.
