4 Hard Downs: Tiers, Father's Day, Ramblers and Gamblers
Arch Manning, My Father's Day Haul, Poker Night Strategy Advice Needed & Another Run?
We’re coming off Father’s Day Weekend, going into Arch Manning week for Talking Tiers but the major story in my life is FOUR SWIM MEETS IN ONE WEEK!!!
No.
Seriously.
FOUR!!!
Last night we got rained out after 90 minutes and just waited around for 90 more minutes. Shout out to my team, every parent cleared out because last week folks left stuff and the weather never quit so they had to leave chairs, purses, coolers etc overnight. We moved as a team, our side of the pool was completely cleared out.
That’s Monday.
Today, Tuesday is the makeup for the meet we didn’t finish last week. So that’s two meets. Thursday a normally scheduled meet. Now, they’re working to re-scheduling Monday’s meet for Saturday.
If you’re counting, as I said, that’s FOUR.
Got my kid some Bodyarmors to help with hydration because kids at the pool think being in the water is the same as drinking, actual water.
Snacks on deck. Bodyarmor on ice. Your dad is “Clerk of Course” baby, you can have whatever you like.
So let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Arch Manning Week
I have spent a lot of time watching this kid and it is on and off the field. Off the field he went to St. Louis to see Ryan Wingo’s camp and meet and help the kids.
This isn’t weird to me. Not nearly as “novel” as the IG video says. It is how good QBs and football families support their teammates and friends. Football is built on trust. If you don’t show up for your teammates, how can they trust you?
This week on “Talking Tiers” I am gonna give you all I have on Arch. I have to use his first name because their are still more popular Manning’s.
Let’s go!!!
2nd Down: Father’s Day
Was it perfect?
It never is.
Did I get asked to go to the pool because that would be what made my daughter happy?
Yes.
Did I have to throw a bunch of kids at said pool?
Yes.
Do my back and shoulders hurt today?
Yes.
Was I also the, “human jungle gym” where my kid and 5 of her friends just climbed all over me because I usually don’t go so I was a new play toy compared to the dads who go all the time. “Oh!! Savannah’s dad is here, he won’t say no and we can climb all over him because the other dads are really tired of us.”
Did I fall asleep before I even got to eat the steak au poivre?
Yes.
That being said, my mom, wife and dad came through the gifts.
Before I show the haul, here’s what I got my dad:
Yes, that is a Tina Turner trading card that I found on eBay. A card signed, “You’re simply the best!”
Then here is how thoughtful my family is with gift giving. Things I’m going to use. Things I usually wouldn’t buy myself but things I do want. No clothes or shoes because those are so often misses since I have a particular taste. Here’s a video of what I got:
They crushed it. Not thrilled with going to the pool, especially with the 4 swim meet week; but very thrilled that my family does know me and what I like.
3rd Down: Ramblers Just Rambling
Speaking of what people like, 10 people are enjoying the Yeti Ramblers from the limited run.
Made sure not to dox anyone, including myself haha. They’re out there in the wild and will have a good call/email about figuring out the next run. This was just a Felder made a choice and wanted “proof of concept” since some people didn’t think anyone would buy them.
8 days. 10 of the 20oz ramblers gone.
We are looking at t-shirts, fannypacks, mugs and for those who want something more immediate the koozies are still here.
4th Down: Dessert Power Move
Homemade strawberry cheesecake ice cream was my wife’s main pregnancy craving in 2018. I got good at it. Rosemary roasted strawberries. Cream cheese. Graham cracker crust pieces. Cream. In the ice cream maker.
It is also, probably because of the pregnancy intake, the only ice cream my kid likes. She literally had it before birth.
Enter Red Velvet Cake, one of two real sweets my kid likes, the other, and I’m proud because she is from North Carolina, Krispy Kreme.
Combine and viola:

They’re angular because it is the remnants of a cake I made for my neighbor. Next time I will make the red velvet cake on a sheetpan to create normal bars. She likes them. My wife likes them. They are good.
We shall see if the swim meet is rescheduled for Saturday morning because that is usually prime relax pool time around 10 and there are still 60 events, multiple heats, so to start at 9 is ambitious.
Oh and before we go, if you’re this far you’re in for a penny and in for a pound. We have a “Poker Night” on Saturday with good family friends. Our kids swim together, our girls are on relay together and we both, as families who care about swim (like it isn’t a joke for us, this is what our kids do, we don’t skip meets). This is, however, just an adult family poker night, just a $20 buy-in, some apps/tapas but it is going to have to be a grandma or babysitter night.
Tips?
Tricks?
I am a terrible gambler, let me know.
Cheers!!!
