4 Hard Downs: Pigs In A Blanket, Spring Ball plus Pro Days
Secret Dinner, Spring is Springing, Lil Wayne and Pro Days are going
Let’s start this out with a shout out to a good friend and truly a great person, Ashley Moser https://www.instagram.com/nextstepscounselingconsulting?igsh=MWtscWhqOXE2cmNnbQ== who speaks on marriage and family but also a thing that really hits close to home for me, eating disorders.
I want to make a clear cut line between people who are battling eating disorders, it is really hard to overcome. That is not what I have. I have disorderly eating and it isn’t a weight thing or body image. It is I spent most of college having people watch me eat and monitor my intake.
So, I don’t like people seeing me eat.
Enter: Secret Dinner

My kid had a “sleep under” (which we can get to later) and that gave me time to setup a great dinner just for me with no talking and Whitney Houston. Grinded my beef, made my buns, double fried my fries, opened up the umbrella and just had a solo dolo dinner.
Every now and then I need one, and since I don’t travel as much as before and don’t just eat in a hotel by myself, Secret Dinner works. Also, my wife knows about it, so it really isn’t that secret but I like it having a name.
Anyways, let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Un-Secret Dinner of Pigs in a Blanket
What My Baby Wants, My Baby Gets
That is germane to both my wife, daughter or mom. In this case my daughter, who asked for pigs in a blanket.

However, I didn’t wan’t to just do hot dogs in Pillsbury crescent rolls. What you’re seeing is homemade hot dog buns portioned out and wrapped around andouille sausage (1 hot dog because my kid is still a kid).
Sweet Potato Fries. Normal Fries. Oh what a night!!
2nd Down: Weezy F. Baby
I am going to see Lil Wayne on Saturday. He is, I guess, my favorite rapper of all time at this point. I am not allowed to like Kanye for obvious reasons and Wu-Tang has sort of disappeared and I’m not going to sit here and pretend to be a Common guy. Weezy F. Baby, and please say the baby, or don’t say it at all.
I’m going with a group of friends who also love Weezy. This is basically our, “You’re 40 or will be 40 soon,” event and instead of going to Antigua we are going to see the BMJR. My friend, actually that’s not fair, my wedding officiant who I went to middle school, high school (and helped him cheat through Chemistry class thanks to Winterfresh gum) and college with (we both were fluent in Spanish and used to watch telenovelas at his frat house) is coming up Friday to do a family dinner with me and my girls.
Then Saturday I’m getting up and going for a run while he takes a shower and then when I get back, I shower and we get the uber to the TRAIN STATION!!!
Yes!!!!
We are taking the train to Raleigh. The Piedmont.
Whiskey on the train? Yes. Walk to the hotel from the station? Yes. Walk to a second location that is our friend’s house? Yes. Take a party bus to the show? Yes. Box at the show? Yes.
I’m about to have the time of my fucking life; a thing that normally never happens on my end, because mostly I’m a dad. The dad part is still activated because my kid’s birthday is 2 weeks after Weezy and I get a small break before I’m back to logistics for her party.
More on that later.
3rd Down: Will Joint Pro Days Grow
Pro Days can be parties too and the Big 12 has decided to do just that.
Going to get all their athletes on the NFL Network and will be pushed to the app as well.
Why not do this?
You still get to work out with your own guys, which is why Pro Days are so huge for feeling comfortable. You will have the entire NFL there in some way of GM, Scouts, Coaches etc there.
Plus more media coverage.
I worked for a guy named Marc Kohn, who is now at Overtime, and one of his biggest things was creating our own events and moments. Signing Day, Playoff, First Game all make themselves; but if you can create your own even and own it, now you aren’t being dictated to; that’s your thing.
16 schools for 3 days are going to be the stars of the show. Great idea. Execution will be interesting but honestly when I get back from Weezy I am excited to just sit and watch.
Maybe you go school one and school two and that’s it, but what if they match different schools up on OL/DL drills or WR/DB drills? That’s good TV and also better evals.
Let’s go!!
4th Down: Draft, Spring Ball and It Is All Happening
Bill Belichick has taken over an overly sized portion of my life. I’m fielding calls from teammates who want to make the final spring practice a huge thing for all of us to meet up. Which means my kid will probably be going to Chapel Hill, a place she has never been, so add that to the stress of everything.
That’s one of his first practice press conferences and I can tell you what, as someone who grew up a Tar Heel, with Mack Brown, Roy Williams, Dean Smith this ain’t what folks are used to. Going to be interesting.
Interesting is a good word, but it got the results folks wanted, “CLICKS,” and I don’t know if that is Belichick’s thing but is Billy Cunningham’s thing and donors’ thing so we will see where it goes. I don’t care about wet ball drills but maybe that’s what made it work. I am excited to see it first hand when we go up there.
Now, first-hand, I am putting on a birthday party. Seven Year Old. Bounce House. Too many people. Popcorn machine. Pizza delivered. Donuts. Things hidden away in the guest bedroom because if these children break a keyboard or get paint on the hardwoods, then Michael Felder has a problem because I’m the one doing the cleaning.
Also:
NO MORE HALF DRANK SMALL WATER BOTTLES THAT COST THE SAME AS THE FULL SIZE BOTTLES THEY ALSO DON’T DRINK!!!
Many parents are on my side and while my wife thinks I’m insane, he’s the reality, bounce house plus paper cups, we’re living in heaven compared to 25,000 mini-Deer Park half bottles all over.
Cheers!!!
real Gs move in silence like lasagna!
The Gatorade jug is a brilliant idea. Also? The Piedmont is the ONLY way to travel between Charlotte and Raleigh, full stop. (Not the Carolinian, the Piedmont.) Which car did you get? My fave is the sweet potato.
