4 Hard Downs: Let's Get Wet, Blitzes Can Help & Being Cool
Kitty Titties, Zone and Bronco plus SWIM SEASON
Your boy is still cool.
I question my dopeness a lot because mostly what I do is whatever my wife and kid want to do and hanging out with their friends plus volunteer at school. Sunday, I was cool as hell on a solo mission to see a good friend play a show. I wore my cat shirt, I had people coming up to me taking pics and in my head I was like, “I’m not just a dad, I got some chillness still in the tank.”
I had on the cat shirt, the Air Max’s. Had on the hoochie daddy shorts drinking a High Life.
Excuse the wrinkles, I had to take a pic after it was laying on the floor post concert change. More than one person said they loved it, a lady came up and because of the blue eyes said, “I like your kitty titties.”
I had a ball this Sunday so now it is Tuesday and we need to SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Shout Out To The KillerAntz
That’s the music show I went to where I realized I still got swag.

These dudes really rule and rocked the house. A lot of Charlotte people didn’t know them because they’re from Winston but they found out. Hell, I found out quick he is not “a” vocalist, no he is “the vocalist” and he’s really good at it.
Something makes you cry and smile, which happened during their set, when random people are coming up to you saying, “This guy fucks,” about my guy Michael Surber. Seeing your friend doing something he loves and truly is super good at is inspiring and amazing.
The other guys in the band were awesome and they genuinely made me feel like I belonged in a scene that I doubt most people would have put me in. Great music, shout to Moo and Brew for some good food and again check out the KillerAntz.
2nd Down: Zone Dawgs’ Start
I am still excited just getting back to my roots and part of that is zone pressures. One of my favorite things and we will get to the why they were but first just a basic concept. That turns this:
Into this:
Learning about “Bronco” and still being able to play zone was integral for a guy, named me, who was not at his best in Cover-1, down the field. In high school we didn’t run many zone dawgs, we ran man, which we will get to; but I could cover every high schooler 1v1, so non-issue.
Then in college you get to Adarius Bowman, Jesse Holley, Hakeem Nicks and you’re solidly screwed. Enter the zone blitz popularized by the Pittsburgh Steelers under Chuck Noll, Dick LeBeau and Dom Capers.
Pressure with protection from the deep ball.
3rd Down: Changing QB Picture
I always view things through the defenders’ lens and how it helps a defense both protects itself and remain on the attack. With the pressure you see three over the top defenders, which is what I played, unless I was the safety flying into the box to replace the blitzing $.
Here’s the other thing it does, outside of protecting the secondary, it surprises quarterbacks, especially young ones. What I drew above was pretty rote, the zone dawgs get incredibly intricate as you, the defender, gets more knowledge comfort with disguises.
Man disguise here from Michigan but watch #91 dump out, he’s looking for interior crossers in a semi-Bronco roll while the rest of his front rushes the pocket and there is not time for the QB to make a play.
Here’s the Rams pattern matching in the 3 deep zone fire:
It is about communication and handing things off. However most importantly, as he points out to the middle, if there was time someone is open, which is the detriment of an aggressive defense not landing pressure. But when you do, let’s rock and roll.
4th Down: Swim Season Starts Now
Printed out my first heat sheets of the summer season. 10 pages. Small typeface. Like, less than 10 typeface. I think we had schedule upwards of 60 plus events, with multiple heats each, so a lot of races. Then an hour-plus delay due to thunder, a late start, abbreviated warm-ups and then race 1-40 before nightfall hit and then skip to relays before going back to race 41.
Then just calling it.
Did I take pictures? No, I was clerk of course so I was getting kids lined up and God bless the kids over 12 who you don’t have to worry about. I will try on Thursday at the next one, I just was super overwhelmed forgetting what a circus these things were on a school night.
Two more school night meets, I will be exhausted because they pair real like well a steak and ride wine with a swim meet and leaving at 7am. In the words of Jadakiss, “We Gon’ Make It.”
Cheers!!!

Man, watching talented friends/loved ones kick ass in front of other people is just the best feeling.
