4 Hard Downs: Chili & Smothered Chicken, Playoff QB Debate & A Black Out
This Jalen Milroe vs JJ McCarthy discussion is wild, but I get it. I don't like it, I get it.
This is coming to you after a 4 hour power outage in south Charlotte. My kid had just went to bed. We are going through temperature drop so I have to make sure she has blankets, which she does, because we have an electric heating system. Entire neighborhood is dark. I call friends from the neighborhood up and the pool neighborhood.
All power is out.
Michael Felder stays up with wife and kid asleep because I also don’t want my appliances to go crazy. Texting friends and neighbors and figuring out when we expect power to be back.
But your boy is ready.
We got mad flashlights. We got candles. We got portable chargers. Worst case scenario we can start the car and we have a 120v in the back.
So, after that night, let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: It is Chili Season Baby
I will admit I forgot to take a picture of the actual chiles and that’s on me. But I use chile de arbol to make it actual chili. Instead of tomato paste I roast tomatoes and garlic to get to what I want and them cook it down.

A little beer. Some grilled andouille. Grilled steak. Fresh ground beef. We are in business. And I like it over rice.
2nd Down: Smothered Chicken Thighs
Roasted Chicken Thighs smothered in chili with cheese. A protein dream team essentially. Sausage. Ground beef. Steak. Beans. Chicken.
Don’t worry we had a big side salad including my favorite tomatoes the cherubs and homemade creamy balsamic.
3rd Down: Jalen Milroe vs JJ McCarthy
This came across the desk via X
I’ve been pretty vocal via College Sports Now and radio hits that I think Alabama wins and it will be because of Jalen Milroe and Bama’s desire to get to 40 and Michigan hoping they can hold them to under 20.
I will absolutely get into it more going forward, but as an early discussion Milroe vs McCarthy, I am taking Milroe everyday.
And the real answer is I’m taking Saban over Harbaugh and a willingness to cut my guy loose vs control him to avoid error. Which, I think, is the bigger discussion here. Milroe has experience having to win a game. McCarthy has experience handing the ball off 32 times against Penn State.
This is going to be a fun few weeks.
4th Down: Offseason Program
Now that we hit bowl season and, for better or worse, recruiting and portal season we will get into some of that. However let me know what else we want. More cooking stuff. More Rad Dad stuff. I will say this our second weekend of basketball was much better than the first. We have a movie night coming up this weekend and the choices are Christmas Vacation or Home Alone.
So let me know what you all want in the offseason, we will still be doing previews for the playoff, including four for The Messenger.
Cheers!!
