4 Hard Downs: Banh Mi Wrinkle, Riley Leonard and Spencer Rattler plus Thanks!
Last week was wild but we're back on track, including 2 QBs hoping to take another step
Last week was nuts, it took me a few extra days to get Thursday Fun Play out, so thanks for sticking with me. In theory I should be exhausted and zonk out at night but instead I’ve been battling my yearly anxiety about “am I prepared enough for the season.” Instead of dreams about flying or winning fights, nightly I am confronted by spreadsheets, depth charts, transfer portal and coaching changes during my slumber.
I can play it cool all I want, but I do care about being good and delivering both factual information but also doing it in a way that’s easy to digest while building a smarter fan. Oh and is entertaining, I pride myself on being an energy in concert with all that; never want a host to get off the line and tell the co-host, “great info but what a dud.”
Definitely will keep updating and my dance card for radio is slowly but surely starting to come into a real schedule, which I love.
Less than a month out from the season so…SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Fried Pork Chops Linking With Banh Mi
I love a banh mi. One of my favorite sandwiches, works for dinner and the leftovers are great for lunch. I usually smoke or roast the pork those, but I’m a southern man, so I decided, let’s try a southern spin. Enter fried pork chop banh mi:
Same homemade New Orleans style French bread.
Same pickled veggies on there.
Same remoulade to grease and cream the sammy, instead of just regular mayo.
But the fried chops, a southern staple, at least in my house, are the difference.
Good crunch. Great texture to go with the steamed bread and sauce.
Highly recommend.
2nd Down: New Month, New Me…Same Me But Hopefully Better
Wanted to update y’all on the walk life:
That is what I was at on 7/30. I hit the number and kept going.
So I finished at 65 for July. We’re starting August off on a good note with 3 in the books on Day 1. Getting back to run-walk now that my toe is feeling better. Aiming for 70, although it is going to be a tough ask with school starting, season starting, having to go to Fayetteville soon.
But your boy is gonna stay after it!
3rd Down: Riley Leonard Is A Dog
Love his numbers from a year ago, but what goes underdiscussed is this guy on the hop. Thanks ESPN:
He’s got wheels. 700 yards a year ago and that is minus sacks, he probably would have had closer to 800 if those weren’t counted against him (CFB please fix this stat). I have enjoyed watching more and more of him as I do my deep dive, but his rushing ability is so fun.
Leonard could be a 3,500/800 guy, maybe more, if they let him. We’ll get more into him on Thursday for sure because he’s a dual threat to be reckoned with.
4th Down: Spencer Rattler’s Next Step Is???
Building.
This is a guy coming out of high school who had the world in his palm and couldn’t live up to the insane standards of Baker Mayfield and Jalen Hurts on a team that was still figuring themselves out.
But this is what he does well, puts the ball where his guys can get it and go.
Not a lot of hospital balls from this guy. Just accurate, near textbook footwork climbing in the pocket and then delivering a ball to the open man who has his guy beat by a step and letting him get upfield instead of pushing him more right and into the next defender.
I appreciate that understanding because a lot of QBs would have thrown him over to the right and he would have been eaten up by that other safety. Let’s him go up the field and score. Love it.
Pumped to get deeper into Leonard and Rattler between my notes from a year ago and re-watching things I might have missed. Let’s Go!!
Cheers!!!
