4 Hard Downs: ACC Kickoff Preview, Wedding Review & Dismantling Defenses
A week-ish in Michigan, guys I get to hear at Media Days plus Devestation
I am 41 years old and it took me this long to realize that I do absolutely hate the necessary task of driving. I do not mind my little 6-7 mile radius between school, pool, whiskey store, grocery stores and will go a bit further once a week for gas.
Read once a week as 8.3 miles, not more miles just 1.3 miles outside of my normal radius.
What I realized is since I’ve moved home from Chicago, this Michigan trip is the most I have driven. Stop and go traffic leaving Detroit. Long drives that still have stoplights and not having any clue where I was going since the rental didn’t have GPS and I don’t use my phone while driving. My wife was a great navigator but I couldn’t see it on screen I just had to rely on her.
We got there we had a time, so let’s SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Michigan In Summer
Went to a wedding in Michigan this past weekend and both the rehearsal dinner and wedding were great. Then drove to Cedar Springs and my wife got to spend time with her best friend. Grand Rapids airport was easy.
Was I perfect, absolutely not, got very turned up in a surprise bro situation. But we made it and got home, despite me being the problem when I was talking and also not talking.
What did I learn? I hate driving and I like silent travel.
2nd Down: ACC Kickoff Today
The league media days start on Wednesday where I will pack my equipment and suitcase, take an uber uptown and have my happy meal ass immersed in all things ACC.
1-CJ Bailey as the best QB in the ACC
2-James Franklin as a bald king
3-Mario Cristobal on delegating
I love Bailey a ton. He turned down the offers and stayed at NC State and he is my favorite QB in the ACC this season.
Franklin going to the Hokies is a connect we never thought we would see. Maryland to Vandy to Penn State to VT. That is a quadrilateral of recruiting that I’d like to hear more about. Starting with Ralph Friedgen.
Cristobal is interesting to me because he got this team into a title game and still realized he needed to build the staff.
3rd Down: Beating A Defense Down
I saw the original video with Adam Breneman and Rich Rodriguez and liked it but this takes it to the next level.
Big facts. Truly.
Death by a sniper is swift and hopeless.
Death by a sledgehammer is unavoidable blunt force trauma.
Looking you in the eyes as you line up and getting your brains beat in while talking cash shit to you and pinning you down letting you know there is nothing you can do about it.
That’s power.
Power is soul crushing in football. Go back to Oklahoma under Barry Switzer or Nebraska under Tom O’Brien; teams that would have very clear plays called and just daree you to stop them. They’d ask you to please get in the way so we can hit you. Alabama and Nick Saban, same thing.
As a safety knowing you have to stop the run and having a 300lbs guy coming at you through the alley is bad news. Hell, unless you’re Kam Chancellor, having a 250lbs FB or TE come down the chute isn’t very fun. I speak from experience.
4th Down: I Am Here
Folks I am here and have done a little hobnobbing. I’m checked into the hotel. Got some radio spots on deck.
Next thing you see will be audio from CJ Bailey, who I think could be the best returning QB not just in the ACC but nationally.
Cheers!!!
