4 Hard Downs: ACC in Ireland, Live Show and Shout Out to Ben B & G
A very cool connection, a super cool show and oops not the start the league wants
What a weekend. FSU gets upset. My kid started 1st grade. I did a live show.
There was a lot going on. And we are going to as much of it as we can because the Del State story is enough by itself.
Oh you don’t know this situation?
Go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!!
1st Down: You Didn’t Know I Was A Del State Fan
We are Hornets in my family. When they missed their flight and had to jingle jangle together a way to get to Hawai’i, I was pissed.
Then what? They got there and guess what!!!
LET’S GO!!!!
My aunt is a Del State nurse. Del State, is in my DNA, it is just up the road from my mom’s childhood home.
So happy for them to get those guys out to the Big Island, a place I’ve never been, and yes they lost. However a huge life experience and they showed up better than Vegas thought they would, and will get to tell their friends, family, kids about this wild ride to Hawai’i.
I say that to point to some of the benefits and allowances that sports can give you that you don’t get usually. My teammates toured the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics facility in 2004 when we played the Utah team coached by Urban Meyer.
There is a gang of dudes from Florida and Georgia who would never go to Ireland that just played in Dublin. Those things do matter beyond the overwhelming discussion of NIL, Draft Stock and Portal Talk.
So shout out to the Hornets for finding a way, covering against a team they were 40 point dogs to and for having an awesome life experience, even if you had to go all the way around your ass to get to your elbow.
2nd Down: The ACC, Shit
From Hornets to Yellow Jackets.
Buzz Buzz Sting ‘Em!!!!!
First game of the year and the team who is working to get out the message that they got jobbed goes out and lays an egg.
But that egg gave birth to Georgia Tech.
Folks are going to point at DJ Uiagalelei but they had no run game, couldn’t stop Tech on the ground and in the biggest moment the Seminoles’ defense gave up a 12 yard screen play to create a shorter field goal for the win.
This is the team that is going to jump ship from the ACC? The team that is better than the league?
Ok.
They got a lot of work to do.
3rd Down: Live Show Just For Us
It isn’t actually just for us. We are posting the show soon. As we get back into the CFB groove but also have HITD rolling. It was a great time.
Here was the intro for HITD:
The three of us had on Jordans, hence the song 23 by Mike WiLL Made It. That’s how we kicked off the show. Yes, that is a whiskey in a plastic cup and a PBR all in one hand and one PBR loaded for back-up in the back pocket.
Then I took my shirt off:
That is not chest hair, that is my beard soaked in sweat.
Meeting people was awesome, including Trevor who did bless me with some Wild Turkey 101 which I am sipping now. Throw in Ben B who was looking out for Gail and we have a moment that will last for a lifetime. Love the community that we have built. It is truly awesome.
And the best part, honestly, was my dad, who doesn’t always agree with all of my choices, saying, “I’m proud of you and this is what you should be doing.” We had a “my dad do the neck grab of affection” and then saying he’s proud of me and he really was amazed to see how the trio of HITD captivated an audience.
That shit was dope as hell.
4th Down: Welcome Back To Normal Baby
I crave routine. I crave getting stuff done. I crave being alone to get said stuff done.
With the start of the school year, I’m getting all of that.
I wake up at 6:15. I lay in bed, no phone, for 20 minutes stretching and then I put on my socks and shoes, start the oven so my kid has her breakfast around 6:55 and make her lunch. I have a drop dead alarm at 6:42 for when I am tired and that is my emergency get up and go. I get her hair laid down with the spray and the scarf. I make sure she brushes her teeth.
I have a 7:17 alarm for when we have to be out of the house and on our way. I have a 7:42 congratulatory alarm that is just for me that basically is a ringtone saying, “You got your kid to school on time.” Then maybe a grocery store run, where I see the same people every time I stop at the Teeter.
I go home, I work, I run, I make dinner.
This is how I like life.
I’m happy.
Cheers!!!
Ben B is the kindest. Thanks for the mention. Beaming here! It looks like you all had so much fun; so very glad of that. <3
23 is the *perfect* walkout song. So proud of y'all. Congratulations!
