Sunday was day; NFL started, I had to go to church for a meet & greet, trampoline birthday party. So, after Week One, heading into Week Two, it was just, “how can I suck out your soul,” and make it 11 days of insanity.
We had a birthday party that was awesome as this trampoline park. Talked to a Clemson dad who was very happy with the App State game and the Tigers letting offense get wild and helping the defense not have to be perfect for 60 minutes.
The other thing we did was exchange phone numbers so that when we try to get the kids together (our kids are really good friends) it isn’t all on the moms. We’re doing a movie night soon and for the dads to put it together and the moms just show up is a really solid move.
I feel like I’m an ok dad just because I want to take stuff off of not just my wife’s plate, but also the other wives’ plate. We’re active dads we can do shit. The dads were talking about the trampoline birthday and they were like, “oh my dad would never have been here on NFL opening weekend, no shot.”
So, we’re trying. We got some teams who tried, if that’s what they call it, so let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Michigan & Notre Dame Gave Us Two Big Lessons
They’re not good.
Shout out to Michigan folks who were very well calibrated in not saying they were disrespected in the rankings. Not a shot out to ND fans thinking after beating a weak A&M team they will be elite.
Michigan got smoked. Notre Dame got embarrassed. Both at home.
The two lessons here?
1-When you lose a 1st round (debatable) QB and your best WR and RB and defensive player and head coach and are playing a team with a seasoned QB and great pieces; you might get your shit kicked in.
And they did.
Texas could have hung 50 on them.
2-No one is scared of you because of your Golden Domes.
The Huskies took every punch you thought you had and just went out and make it work for a 16-14 win. 14 points. At home. Against the MAC.
Bonus Point 3-The system is working. The Big Ten and SEC want to minimize ND as an independent and NIU did some dirty work for them and not only can they not get a bye based on the rules, now they’re going to have to work hard to sniff the playoff.
2nd Down: Final Scores Don’t Tell The Story
Bama struggled against USF. Michigan State and Maryland was a rock fight. Penn State against Bowling Green looked bad for the home team. Utah wrestling down Baylor wasn’t as close as the score says.
What we learned is:
-Tempo and attacking angles is a problem for Alabama’s defense
-Michigan State is still offense optional
-Penn State pulling it out was about bodies, they got out played but found a way to win and that is a tip of the cap to that team's mettle
-Utes will never score 70 points but they make you quit because they lay on you all day
Every game. Every team. They all tell their own story.
Shit, Oregon fighting with Boise State helps the Broncos get to where I said they would be at the end of the year, in the Top 10 after running through the MWC. And by running through I mean Ashton Jeanty giving folks the business.
They won’t be a twelve, they’ll be a 9 or a 10 and a problem.
3rd Down: Nebraska and Cal Have Rizz
One at home. One on the road. Both have that rizz.
Nebraska sauced up Colorado in Lincoln. Cal went to The Plains and sauced up Auburn. The Big Ten doesn’t need any help (Michigan does), but the ACC certainly needed a good weekend and newcomer Cal going to get it in Auburn is a win for the league.
Ott wasn’t even, couldn’t even, be the star of the show. Mendoza played well but overall Cal and Wilcox just did a very Felder thing and “Finished The Drill.”
Nebraska got flashy in spots but ultimately they knew Colorado can’t run the ball or protect their QB so let’s get after him. And then ended it like this in the locker room in a game, I’m pretty sure, given conference transitions and the transfer portal action, Buffs’ players have know idea that this is a longtime rivalry:
Huskers do, though.
In a world where skibidi Ohio is a thing, Colorado is skibidi Idaho. No run game. Great QB. Best player in the country. But still…
Can’t win.
4th Down: Fall Is Hitting
First and foremost, if you don’t like Candy Corn, good.
That’s more for me.
I am working very hard on 4th of July, Labor Day, Valentine’s Day and above all Christmas and other holidays that I think suck, to just shut the fuck up.
Y’all try that with this.
That’s it. Peace.
Cheers!!!
You are spot on with Jeanty. He is going to make some noise.
