4 Hard Downs: It's a Party, Player Comps and Potpie
I like my potpie thicc, we had a big party and working on player comps is always wild
My potpie is thicc, my player comps are mixed.
So, deal with that Sexxy Red.
We had a month in a week so let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!
1st Down: Not Runny Potpie
I don’t like it messy, which is what I usually get from a family potpie.
Individual potpie in a ramekin or bowl can be sloppy because it is contained within the small container. However, when you make a big potpie for your family, cut slices out, the normal recipe is too wet.
So I fixed it.
Biscuit crust into a hot cast iron skillet with a biscuit top.
Not dry. Very moist. Super flaky. Slices like I want it.
Just well put together.
One, I need a crust on the bottom, as you can see:
Two, fully shredded chicken
Three, a roux for the shredded chicken
Four, a mirepoix so you get all the flavor.
Five, stock and then reduce.
Into the oven so the biscuit top and bottom cook and then you have it.
We’re done. I like it this way. Just like with my kid’s banana bread, I find ways to make the thing I like my ideal way.
2nd Down: I Love Cross Racial Comps
This started as a high school recruit thing and now it is a big part of my NFL Draft strategy.
Christian McCaffrey to Reggie Bush.
Dwayne Haskins (RIP) to Ben Roethlisberger.
This year, Cooper DeJean to Ronde Barber.
Anytime you can find them, they make people think and it isn’t just “this white wide receiver is like Wes Welker.” It does two things:
-Make people think
-Help people think
Make and Help are one in the same because they work hand-in-hand. Making people think is important so that they can question themselves. Help people think is pushing them out of the nest so they have to figure it ou and this is a starting point.
JJ McCarthy could be in the Randall Cunningham world if he is at his best and gets good coaching. He’s an amazing athlete with tremendous skills who was asked to do the least out of all of the QBs in this draft. This is the first time you’ve heard the Cunningham comp.
He is a super athlete with a remarkable arm.
If he can get to his fullest potential, I think Cunningham is his ceiling.
3rd Down: Guys I Wish Played Now
We already hit on Randall Cunningham. But give me Michael Vick. Give me Steve Young.
And that’s just QBs.
Give me Reggie Bush too.
Football has evolved to a point where a lot of these guys would have been better suited for the game. College into the NFL and innovation from college to the NFL on the back of the NFL actually accepting the out of the box thinking.
These guys would have been absolute monsters. Not just in moments, but for seasons.
The game is just different, it is built for the players, not for the coaches. Coaches who evolve to build around players, instead of forcing players into their system will thrive.
But whew, I wish we got to see Bush or Cunningham in today’s game get out there and just cook dudes.
4th Down: We Had A Damn Party
Seriously, bouncehouse and all:
Bouncehouse with a slide that goes into a pool. We did not do the pool for the main part of the party because that is a lot of wet kids going in and out of the house. We did the water feature after everyone but two other families left.
We also did donuts instead of cake or cupcakes. Also had The Masters on inside. So we had 20 kids which means almost 40 parents, aside from the 2 drop offs. Basically almost 60 people here using the bounce house and my bathroom and eating pizza.
It’s a party and we like having them and it seems people like coming, so we are dialing into what is going to be a movie night, grilling out, yard games and slip-n-slide summer. #LETSGO
Cheers!!!
Start getting those movies queued up. When is it too early to have children watch Celtic Pride?
