4 Hard Downs: Burger Time, Draft Week, Park Parties & Cramming For The Exam
Draft is the only exam I've ever cared about, we went to another park party and I'll be in NYC in a few days, holler at your boy
I thought my cold running gear was retired for the season because it has been in the 80s and touched 90 and then I get up and it is 48 and windy cold rain. So you always have to adapt. That’s why I just keep my running shelf stocked for any situation.
Those are my new shoes, which I guess I’m growing to break-in, in NYC since I will be there for the draft and B/R. Please tune in and battle the trolls in the comments if you have the time and energy. As for the shoes, I’m a 38 guy but I can’t find any right now so I’m giving the 40s a spin as I try to get ready for the Meck Mile next month.
HITD promo code should go live soon for race registration.
It also means I am doing a HITD from NYC in a hotel room and that’s going to be a lot of fun on hotel internet.
Another thing that’s a lot of fun? Cramming for an exam so let’s go ahead and SPOT THE BALL!!!!
1st Down: The NFL Draft Is My Exam Season
I lied in the description, although maybe not.
NFL Draft is the exam but when I was in college I was so worried, especially in spring, when we had chalkboard battles in the DB room. Those, to be fair, were more like pop quizzes than exams.
So actually, I am right.
NFL Draft is a massive exam that combines “did I take enough notes in season” and “did I watch enough of the draft process” plus “oh do you know enough about these NFL teams” all in 3 days.
I cared less about my college exams. I cared less about my AP exams in high school. NFL Draft, on set, is my true exams and I want to ace them. So this entire week I am both going through my co-host’s Mike Renner’s evals while also building out the final end of the spreadsheet with notes to avoid the inevitable surprise of some guy from Lake George County Community College being drafted and we’ve both never heard of him.
Cram so you can slam.
2nd Down: Draft Week Is Lies
This isn’t a long one. We are doing a show on the B/R app about trades and moves this week and another show about sleepers/steals.
This is a week of truly insane info being dished out via agents and GMs to throw everyone off their scent.
It sucks.
They will trash someone to make sure he falls to them.
They will talk someone on their roster up to build trade stock so they can move them for more draft capital.
Anything you hear this week, until Thursday and it happens, take it with a grain of salt.
3rd Down: Second Park Party
We had another party at the park. Great kid. Great family. I helped clean up like always and we got out of there before the rain came crashing down here in Charlotte.
We also lost our kid for a little bit.
Not in a scared way, just in a “where did all these kids go because Freedom Park in Charlotte is big” way.
The pavilions are away from the park and there are trails that go into the neighborhood and there are different pavilions so it is basically a great quest for kids to go across the little creek to the playground, or even further to the swings or even further to the Panthers playground and heaven forbid they cross the volleyball courts to go watch soccer or baseball and try to find your group of eight 6 or 7 year olds so you can do a piñata or donuts or cake and half are all over the planet.
Run on sentence, I know.
But when you’re running around trying to gather parents who are running around to gather kids, that shit gets real.
It was fun. Piñata for this one and I volunteered to basically be in the strike zone because kids truly do not understand the damage a bat can do to their face.
But they have replaceable teeth
So why don’t we put little kids as the safety in front and behind the piñata. My teeth will cost me thousands; they will just grow new ones.
Great party, great friends, my kid had her first Sno-Cone and I met the sister of the mom who was hosting the pasty who also likes Wild Turkey 101 and so at the pool this summer, she and I might have a nip before I run home.
4th Down: The Mother Of Baconator
We’ve all seen the viral video right?
I tried my version of that.
It was awesome. What was more awesome?
Well the bacon part with the cheese worked really well. I used cheddar and Swiss with diced bacon between the slices, melted and then chilled so it became one unit. Then put it on the griddle and covered to steam melt it.
It was also awesome because:
I ate it alone on my patio. Just truly having a meal I wanted to have, without, “Can you get me milk” or “Can you get me wine” or “I don’t want to hear a podcast” or “Not this song.”
Just me. Double fried fries. The burger. Alone.
I love dinner with my family. We have dinner together every single day. But whew the rare “get exactly what you want, perfect cook because you did it and don’t have to be running traffic” is also a good feeling.
Can’t beat it every now and then. Which is what lunch will be like for me in NYC Thursday-Saturday. We are going to chicken tenders city because what I can’t have are stomach issues. I will still run everyday, I just can’t get buckwild on the food choices. Please check the show out, it is going to be really fun.
And if your in the city, holler at your boy!
Cheers!!!
